Choosing a Life STYLE

It is painful for many gay people to see the word "lifestyle" used as a code for gay because it implies that there is a style to adopt just like putting on a new article of clothing or adopting a hairstyle. Even sadder is the truth that some people do navigate their lives in and out of the closet whenever it is convenient to do so. Married gay guys generally live in denial until they have an opportunity to be out, exclusively, with their gay friends.





While it is true that we can choose to PRETEND to be attracted to the opposite sex and we can say the words and walk the walk of the heterosexual, it is also true that our innate inclinations are something we did not choose.

Therefore, the choice is ours. If our inclinations are to be gay, we can choose to live in the integrity of the core of our beings or we can live in denial, repression, suppression and self-loathing in an effort to avoid the perceived rejections from the people around us. If you look at the people who MIGHT judge us, you might just realize that the most intimidating judges can be OURSELVES.
